General Description:

• It is a prescription sign belonging to the category of prohibition signs, according to art. 117 of the Regulations for the execution of the Highway Code.
• Figure II 52 shows the prohibition on overtaking imposed on vehicles intended for the transport of goods (lorries) with a laden mass of more than 3.5 tonnes.

Technical features:

• Shape: circular (disc).
• Diameter: 60 cm (standard size for main urban roads and secondary extra-urban roads).
• Reflective film class: Class 1 – normal reflective film, suitable for illuminated roads.
• Border color: red.
• Background color: white.

Inner Symbol:

• Two stylized vehicles:
a red one on the left (overtaking vehicle, represents prohibited behavior);
a black one on the right (vehicle overtaken);

• At the bottom, under the two vehicles, the indication "> 3.5 t" or the figure of the truck with this wording, depending on the graphic version approved by the Ministry.

• Material: flat or rounded aluminium sheet, 25–30/10 mm thick, with Class 1 adhesive reflective film compliant with UNI EN 12899-1.


Meaning:

• Indicates that vehicles used for the transport of goods with a laden mass exceeding 3.5 t may not overtake on the entire stretch of road following the signal, until:
at the sign "End of the overtaking ban for vehicles > 3.5 t" (Fig. II 56), or
to the signal that modifies or revokes the statute of limitations.


Application:

• The signal is installed to:
improve the safety and fluidity of traffic on stretches of road with poor visibility, slopes, curves or narrow carriageway;
avoid slowdowns caused by overtaking heavy vehicles.


Installation example:

• Support: round galvanised pole Ø 48–60 mm.
• Ground clearance (bottom edge): 1.5 – 2.2 m.
• Positioning: right side of the road, clearly visible to drivers.
• Warning distance (if necessary): This can be preceded by a "prohibition notice" sign.
